The reason I gave this movie such a low scores is because, without showing it, it's genius. Let me explain, because some of you might not see why. The directing is amazing. I love Keenen Ivory Wayans' style of direction. It's amazing. He only puts focus on the jokes, not on the details. That is key to a good comedy. Keenen Ivory is awesome and he deserves an A+ for this piece of work. I agree that Anna Faris, Shawn Wayans and Lochlyn Munro can do much better acting than they did in this movie, but of course, there were other actors that compensated for them. The acting deserves an A-. The fact i love Acary Movie 1 more than all the others combined is because it only parodies a couple of movies, whereas # 2, 3 and 4 make fun of at least a dozen each. Scary Movie 1 concentrated a lot more on having a nice flowed parody that made sense, instead of just throwing in jokes. The story (even if there's not much sign of one) deserves an A. There wasn't many visual effects. the ones that were there were actually very bad... But I think the cheezy visuals give a special effect to the movie... A better laugh and it adds up to it. I have to take away the A, however, because they're just not that great, but I definitely think they deserve a B+. So now you know why I gave this movie and A-... I think it's an awesome piece of work by the Wayans brothers. Some people will think it's stupid... I think it's brilliant.

I saw this movie with my cousins, and despite what other people think, there were many funny parts to this movie (if you have a loose sense of humor. Others, like some of the movie critics, found only 2 parts funny. "can you guess where I am?...." "ooh...uh, you, you're behind the couch." *looks at self* "aww, *****.........ok, turn around!!" Even though fairly anyone could have done this (watch scary movies and make up jokes about the parts. Think about it, any half-minded person could do it. I'm sure everyone has made their own jokes), these people did it first. And using the half-minded jokes anyone could make up, it did awesome. It was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, along with Austin Powers. Think about it. When you go out to see "comedy" movies, how funny are they really? Like I said before, the only movies I've ever watched that were actually genuinely funny were this and Austin Powers (I've also seen SM 2 and 3 with the same results, but this is supposed to be past-tense, so Shhhhh) "She drove all the horses crazy, killed all the puppies, hid the remote, really sick *****" This movies is stupid, of course, but if you go to see a comedy movie and still care about it's stupidity level, good luck those movies. The perfect movie to watch with your grandmother! - Scary Movie Reviews

Hollywood's interest in spoofs sort of died down in the mid 90s and the ones that were released in the late 90s didn't do so well. This was the movie that kind of got Hollywood interested in the spoof genre again. Since the release of Scary Movie, the world has been hit with 3 sequels and other spoofs like Shawn of the Dead, Kung Pow and Date Movie. So was this one any good? Hell yes it was! This was mainly a parody of Scream which was already a spoof of horror films in a way. The movie features hillarious sight gags (the snot-nose "Blair Witch Project" scene) and a tone of disgusting gags (Mrs Mann, the end of the "bedroom" scene) and it all works on a hillarious level. I loved the killer, and who it turned out to be. I highly recommend bringing this movie to your next Christmas or Thanksgiving family get-together and watch this with your Grandmother and the rest of your family...its a highly educational film! ...haha

A spoof of a spoof. Not usually something that would work, but it does here. The movie starts with laughs and never stops. Very dark humor and some of it is very gross humor. It spoofs a bunch of movies, some of them being...'Blair Witch Project', 'Scream', 'The Sixth Sense', 'I Know What You Did Last Summer', and even 'The Matrix'. There was a lot of straight up stupid humor, but also some more clever humor. Really gross in some scenes. I would not recommend it to girls, but guys should love it. Not actually scary. If you haven't seen it, you should rent it, but again, don't watch with girls, any person of authority, or little kids...pretty much just with friends. I think it will be talked about for years, and the series will last as long as all these horror movies do.

As a huge horror movie fan, I must admit Scary Movie is one of the best satires on the genre. It did an excellent job of displaying the cliches many horror movies have and at making fun of at some of most important/significant parts of some of the top ranking horror movies. Though spoofs on certain film genres are not uncommon (i.e. Mafia, Scream if You Know What You Did Last Friday The 13th, Not Another Movie), it's one of the most unique and well organized. There were a few scenes in the film that were pretty silly and didn't do justice to the film, however it did not take away from the films humor or overall effect. The acting in the film was memorable- I wish I could say some people didn't take their roles seriosuly, but this wasn't exactly a film to be serious in. Overall, the cast did an good job. The visuals of the film were great- the crew of the film did a great job of recreating the scenery of the films that were being ridiculed and on various other points in the film Overall, I'd give Scary Movie an B+. It was near flawless, but as I said before, their were films that were just too silly and un-needed.

I don't know why but this movie was as funny as the 2nd one to me. I didn't like the dirty humor in this one. i thought that it was sick they showed 2 or 3 men's privates. There aren't that many "Spoof" films (in my opinon) and this movie makes an excellent addition to the genre. I like the way the comedy is aimed towards the horror genre. I like the way the characters are comical and the way the whole story follows the movie Scream. (Watch this movie and Scream and you'll see that the scenes are very similar and so are the dialogue). I just loved the silliness of the film and the humor it has.
